Rep Mazzochi celebrates her Summer Reading Club for Students with an Ice Cream Social at Ty Warner Park in Westmont

After a summer of reading, it was time for a treat! All of the students of Rep. Mazzochi’s reading program were invited to Ty Warner Park in Westmont to enjoy and Ice Cream Social and share with Deanne and each other wonderful places they were able to go through literature and reading. Rep. Mazzochi shared with the students that being the daughter of a school teacher meant there was a premium placed on reading, not just while in school, but after school and during the summer months. “Reading opens up an entire world to you no matter where you are. My mom didn’t just teach me to read and tell me to read, she taught me how to love reading”, said Rep. Mazzochi. Adding, “She may have used ice cream as a reward a time or two”.

Children from every community in the 47th District participated in the 2019 Summer Reading Club, and those who read at least eight books over their summer break were invited to the ice cream party. In addition to ice cream and splash party in conjunction with the Westmont Park District. Each participant received an official certificate of achievement from the Illinois House of Representatives.
