Yesterday I visited Oak Point University‘s new Oak Brook campus. The school specializes in health care and provides a range of degree options from a 6 month certificate to a doctorate in nursing. There is a great shortage of skilled medical workers and schools like Oak Point can help fill that gap. One of the interesting aspects of this school is that about 50 percent of their students are career changers who went back to school to retrain to enter the medical field. The average age of a student is around 30. Students get the chance to work in apprentice style programs in area hospitals and other medical facilities to gain valuable hands-on experience. I met with the president of the university, Dr. Therese Scanlan and other administrators.
